A small island, which recently has become very famous because one volcano (and probably it is just the beginning) and previously because the economic crisis - Iceland, land of ice and volcanos. ;)
Iceland is an island located in north Atlantic Ocean (near Artic Circle) on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Island is also a country with Reykjavík as capital city and 3 people / km2 (which gives a 317.593 population at 103.000 km2).
If you will be on Iceland you should visit:
- Reykjavík - the world's northernmost capital and city is believed to be the location of the first permanent settlement in Iceland around 870.
- Eyjafjallajokull - recently the most famous volcano in the Europe, which caused major delays in flights of aircraft... and probably this is only prelude to eruption of:
- Katla - bigger volcano than Eyjafjallajokull that should couse more problems in flights that "little Eyjafjallajokull".
- Vatnajökull National Park - the largest national park in Europe (covers 12.000 km2 11% of Iceland. "The battle between ice and fire" still rages within park's boundaries.
- Glaciers and geezers over Iceland. ;)
