Rome

Rome, I think the most magnificent city, is on the top of my list of the cities which I have to visit. Plenty of monuments, the most amazing history and the best pizza ;)

History
The city of Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, on the Tiber river within the Lazio region of Italy. Rome's history spans overtwo and a ahalf thousand years. It was the capital city of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, which was a major political and cultural influence in the lands bordering the Mediterranean Sea for over four hundred years from the 1st Century BC until the 4th Century AD. Since the 2nd Century AD Rome has been the seat of the Papacy and, after the end of Byzantine domination, in the eighth century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and in 1946 that of the Italian Republic. Since 1929 it is also the site of the Vatican City, an independent city-state presided over by the Pope.

Architecture of Rome
Rome's architecture over the centuries has greatly developed, especially from the Classical and Imperial Roman styles. In Rome We can meet a mixture of all the styles: renaissance, baroque, neoclassicism. In Rome We can see a lot of parks and gardens which cover a large area in Rome, and the city has one of the largest areas of green space amongst European capitals. Of course, We can admire fountains and aqueducts.

Rome is well known for its statues, obelisks, columns and bridges. In Rome is situated Vatican where is plenty of monuments. The Vatican Museum is among the greatest museums in the world, since they display works from the immense collection built up by the Roman Catholic Church throughout the centuries.
